Botony in the 21st century
Read today on a billboard on Pike St.-"If the human mind was simple enough to be understood, then we would be too simple to understand it"..........
Attempt 1:
To experience and in turn, be producers of beauty
Logic-to what we know, humans are the only beings capable of awe, that is,
truly being struck by the
sheer majesty and beauty of a situation. We are also inherently creators, and often find the greatest fulfillment and meaning in creating or producing something, therefore it is sensible that the thing we ought to concentrate on creating is the thing we are in a way designed to sense beyond all else, beauty. Beauty is also very complex as it can be joyous,
sobering, intoxicating, confusing, defying, defining, and intolerable, yet it is only our own vices that turn beauty to real harm. It adds to life, whether it be an architects vision made reality, or a dense forest
cleansing ones palate.
Refute-What does beauty add to the world but a sensible pleasure? And if it is only man who can truly sense and benefit from it, then how can one justify it's purpose in such a species specific task? To observe beauty seems to be less refutable as a purpose however although it may be enjoyable, is one's life felt to be complete once they have seen all that they consider beautiful? I think not.
Attempt 2:
To be constantly engaged in the philosophical practice of inquiry.
Logic-to question is to honor that there is value therein that is desired to be uncovered. In the process of inquiry one becomes enveloped in a dialogue that examines the self and the world. To
truly examine brings about natural and unavoidable change as we are beings who despise discomfort and show me a man who has never cringed in the face of his own inadequacies. Also, to examine and question is to call out understanding, and whether or not it is found the very journey has often been quoted as the "life worth living".
Refute- questions don't always lead to answers but often only more questions and the very idea of a purpose is to give a definitive
end, or at least a picture of an end to be achieved. Is one really to find peace in the idea that a mind was created, or came into existence, simply to ponder the very reasons it came into existence?
Attempt 3:
